Zoo World Awareness
The world is an ever changing place, we at Zoo have a social conscience and feel it’s important to play our part in shaping the world we live in. We take care about the source of our jewellery ranges, where our stock comes from and feel a real connection with our friends overseas when we go buying abroad. We are aware of our good fortune of living in a free and democratic society with a welfare system and therefore feel it’s important to give back to others less fortunate in any way possible. It’s important that we all care about each other on a world level and that we try to give as much support to each other as human beings in this the 21st century.Zoo’s chosen charity has a real and current world connection, this charity is Afghan Connection. The charity is run by Dr Sarah Fane, started after her travels to war torn Afghanistan in 2002. To date they have raised over 2 million pounds and support a number of keys projects.
In the last 8 years Afghan Connection has funded the build of 32 schools for over 30,000 children, working closely with the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA). They have linked 20 UK schools to Afghan schools in their Twin School Project, involving 26,000 children in the UK alone. A new focus on sport has led to a partnership with the MCC Spirit of Cricket, and the financing of 17 concrete wickets and organised cricket camps throughout Afghanistan, including coaching camps for girls.
Most recently they have established a new education project, called The Worsaj Education Initiative, in the Worsaj region of North East Afghanistan in a drive to make their work in education more holistic and sustainable. In health they collaborate with other Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) which target health projects that are small but have a big impact on material and child health.
We at Zoo feel that this whole hearted charity is perfect for our support and will be doing our best to raise as much money as possible as a supporter of the charity. The fact that they support children is amazing as the children of today will build the future of this nation, the twin project of cricket is a particularly favourite idea of ours. We are all keen cricket fans and know how important cricket is in this region, sport and team building is priceless for building self esteem in children and therefore gets our whole-hearted support.
